On 20 June 2017, the village of Savaia Lefaga, Upolu, Samoa was recognized as Tsunami Ready. Samoa became the second country in the Pacific, and the first of the Pacific Island Countries, to pilot the UNESCO IOC ICG/PTWS Tsunami Ready guidelines. Savaia's Tsunami Ready application was approved by Samoa's National Tsunami Ready Board, who convened from June 14-16 to conduct a site verification visit, and then to review, evaluate, and approve their application.
