On November 3, 2023, Fiji became the first Pacific Island Country to implement the UNESCO IOC Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme since it was officially established in 2022.

Navuevu Village and Sila Village in Cuvu District of Nadroga Province, Viti Levu, Fiji achieved all 12 Tsunami Ready indicators, with support from Fiji's Mineral Resources Department, National Disaster Management Office, Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, and non-government community partners, and facilitation from the UNESCO IOC Suva office and the International Tsunami Information Centre (ITIC).
